English Hungers is based on a true story of three thugs who tortured a donkey to death and escaped justice.

English Hungers
Sam Spurns, a lawyer during the day, is a singer with the band, English Hungers, at night. The band has long-held beliefs on animal rights. They are knowledgeable about and steeped in the history and philosophy of the subject. English Hungers are a rock ‘n’ roll roots band that delivers music with muscle to their fans who share the same ideas and ideals. Spurns is briefed to prosecute three thugs who abuse an animal resulting in her death. Spurns is tested to the limit when the thugs she prosecutes all plead ‘not guilty’ and go on trial. Everyone knows the thugs are guilty. During the trial the thugs call their bent friends as witnesses to support their false alibis. The judge takes against Spurns from the start. Sam meets him toe-to-toe with no intention to dance to his bullying tune. After a long trial all the thugs are acquitted.
Spurns is affected by the verdicts as she was sure they were guilty. Spurns feels she let down the victim, Mo, as the abused donkey died in vain while the culprits walked away scot-free. As Spurns is leaving court they see her in the foyer. They openly mock Spurns and re-enact the killing of Mo proving they were guilty and crowing about the acquittals. Their action ignites the sparks in her heart as she feels to blame for losing the case. It is especially hard on her as she always knew they were as guilty as sin. Spurns fixes on them. She decides in a split-second to avenge the dead animal by serving up the cold dish of justice. Spurns decides to completely change her life, burns her legal bridges and is set on becoming an eco-outlaw, a modern Joan of Arc, a 21st century stag-spanner to wreak revenge on the animal abusers. Sam decides to follow in the footsteps of her heroines who according to their history had to resort to breaking rather than making the law. With her persuasion English Hungers are intent on moving with the motion of the abolitionists. Together they are the avenging angels of the 21st century ready to take on the world. As with anyone who anytime anywhere chooses love over fear, you can never tell who you will offend or which way the winds of change will wend. All you can do is set the ship regardless of what iceberg or trouble the fates decide to send. Though who knows where a runaway river bends?
Reviews:
We figured there were only two people who were right to write a review of English Hungers that mattered. We had to do without one because as yet we could not make contact with Edward Abbey or Ronnie Lee.
